Responsibilities for Getting Pharmacist Jobs in Canada 2022:
- Provides drug information when there is not sufficient time for other health care professionals to appropriately research the DI question, when there is a knowledge gap, or when the question requires more thorough research.
- Maintains the IWK Health formulary based on scientific evidence of efficacy, safety, pharmacoeconomics, and IWK-specific factors.
- Supports the development of programs to support population-based medication practices that maximize patient outcomes (e.g. development of pharmacotherapeutic guidelines, medication-use evaluation criteria, and therapeutic interchange protocols).
- Participates in drug shortage management, including identifying alternative treatments, developing protocols for restrictive use, and addressing formulary concerns.
- Supports the development of clinical decision support tools such as order sets, dosing protocols, and order-entry alerts.
- Reviews preprinted orders and clinical order sets ensuring consistency of drug information resources.
- Maintains drug information content in IWK internal and external websites.
- Addition/modification of drug dosing guideline content in response to formulary changes, end user feedback, drug library changes, call back records, policy decisions, order set revisions/uploads, usage data, etc.
- Maintains downtime DI files and ensures deployment of the same.
- Maintains on-call resources for on-call pharmacists.
- Maintains MedRoom Landing Page Content.
- Creates and maintains parenteral information content and standardization.
- Works collaboratively with AMS Pharmacist to review/check content created in First Line.
- Mentors learners, pharmacy residents, and new staff on drug information roles and responsibilities.
- Creates and/or reviews patient and family medication-related resources in collaboration with Family Library Coordinator and clinical pharmacists.
- Participates in IWK Health and unit-based committees; and other duties as required.
Skills for Getting Government Jobs in Canada 2022:
- Minimum: Entry-level pharmacy degree from a CCAPP (or similar standard) accredited university (includes Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm D).
- Completion of accredited Canadian hospital pharmacy residency, post-graduate residency program specializing in drug information, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Licensure or eligibility with the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists as an Active Direct Patient Care Pharmacist.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work responsibilities and to work well under time pressures, including ability to switch priorities and multitask.
- Proven ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
- Self-motivated, independent worker with strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, team building, and problem-solving skills required.
- Excellent skills using a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Zoom, TEAMS, Webex, and pharmacy computer software systems (Meditech).
- Familiarity with Smart pumps and infusion pump dose-error reduction software.
- Familiarity with areas of pharmacy practice related to parenteral drugs, compounding, sterile product preparation, and use of drug information tools.
- Certified or eligible for certification as an immunizer under the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists.
- Valid CPR-C license or equivalent.
- Active Member of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists.
- Experience in pediatrics and women’s health.
- Experience in drug information and drug utilization.
- Experience applying for evidence-based medicine in direct patient care.
- Background in critical review and appraisal of scientific literature and its practical application.
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills to prevent and resolve drug-related problems and evidence-based practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively and in a complex team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to think reflectively, question assumptions, assess alternatives and lead and support change
- Demonstrates the four aspects of practice-based clinical education with undergraduate (pharmacy, medicine) students, post-graduate students (pharmacy, medicine, nurse practitioner), pharmacy staff (direct patient care pharmacists), other health care professionals, and learners.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for patient safety and medication safety.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Patient & Family Centred Care.
- Competencies in other languages an asset.
