Jobs in Germany for Foreigners with Visa Sponsorship, You will be part of the technology leadership team, along with the CTO and other Directors of Engineering, responsible for all facets of our technology and engineering practices, from architecture to development workflows.

You will have a lot of freedom to challenge existing processes and develop new initiatives that improve the team’s productivity and the quality of their deliverables while creating an engaging, supportive, and autonomous work environment for your teams.

On-Running is expanding its Tech Center in the heart of Berlin and we’re looking for an experienced Director of Software Engineering. You will oversee agile and cross-functional teams of Salesforce and full stack engineers, Product Owners, DevOps, and QA.

With experience in building high-performance software, you will contribute to building robust and scalable technology for the world’s fastest-growing and most innovative sports shoe and apparel brand, active in 45 countries worldwide. 

In our technology hub in Kreuzberg, Berlin, we’re focused mainly on engineering and we continuously develop our platform using agile development practices.

You’ll work in close collaboration with our teams at our Zürich HQ (Switzerland) as well as teams in Portland (USA) and Yokohama (Japan).

Responsibility:

  • Lead and manage around 12-15 engineers in Berlin, Zürich, and remote (mentoring, coaching, growth, hiring, retention).
  • Help our teams become truly self-organized, focusing on constant improvement.
  • Play a leading role in the architecture and design of our tech stack, you have not forgotten how to code.
  • Keep up with the latest trends and have a technology strategy in place, maintained, and executed properly.
  • Guide the teams in terms of team structure, delivery processes, quality, product & technology strategy, continuously challenging their deliverables.
  • Establish best practices for cross-team collaboration and agile software development processes.
  • Contribute to the overall product/technology vision and strategy.
  • Work closely with other Heads of Engineering, CTO, Product Owners, and stakeholders to improve processes and increase engineers’ productivity.

Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in a people leadership position.
  • A passion for agile software development and leadership, substantial and proven experience in successfully managing, growing, and leading full-stack teams (TypeScript, Vue.js, GraphQL, Terraform, Azure/AWS clouds).
  • Successful collaboration with diverse business functions to align on a roadmap and technology vision that addresses the company’s needs.
  • Passion to understand and follow the trends in your technological domain.
  • Just as successful as an individual as you are in a team. You operate with minimal hand-holding but know when to seek support.
  • An excellent communicator who can easily adapt to different audiences.
  • Proactive and thought-provoking – you foster an environment that promotes new ideas, proves them with data, then drives them to successful execution.
  • You’re adaptable and dynamic and understand the complexities of a maturing product and organizational structure.
  • An E-Commerce background (bonus).
