To work under the direct or indirect supervision of the nursing staff, providing:
  • Assistance with patients’ overall care and safety
  • Support the team to deliver high-quality patient-centered care.

  • Acknowledge limitations and seek advice/support when necessary.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • To assist with the maintenance of patient safety at all times.
  • Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to patients, recognizing their individuality, and promoting privacy and dignity.
  • Assist with patient hygiene, elimination, mobility, physical comfort, eating, and drinking, whilst observing and reporting specific changes.
  • Perform and report the clinical observation of patients including respiration rate, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and fluid balance.
  • Observe and report changes in the patient’s condition to the named nurse/ nurse in charge.
  • Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, patients, visitors, and other hospital departments.
  • Assist with the maintenance of ward cleanliness and adhere to The London Clinic policies relating to infection control.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, visitor, and staff information.
  • Participate in Unit/Clinic projects.
  • To be aware of, and comply with all relevant Clinic and unit policies and guidelines.
  • To receive and follow instructions on the correct and safe use of all equipment relevant to your job and the procedures for reporting faults with this equipment.
  • To assist with the maintenance of stock levels.
  • To be flexible in staffing situations where possible.
  • Carry out duties in an efficient and helpful manner to maximize the benefit for patients and visitors, colleagues, and self to promote the clinic and the unit.
  • To carry out delegated tasks recognize limitations of competence and decline any duties or responsibilities that you feel unable to perform in a safe manner.
  • To behave in a professional manner at all times.

  • Orthopaedics & Spinal Surgery Unit.
  • General Surgery Ward.
  • Gynecology.
  • Urology & Neuroscience Unit.
  • Digestive Diseases Unit (Gastro & Colorectal Surgery).
  • Day Surgery Unit.
  • Plastics & Reconstruction.
  • Oncology & Haematology.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

As a Bank HCA,  you will be responsible for the delivery of the highest standards of care and service to the patients.

Skills & Experience:

  • To have completed secondary education.
  • NVQ in Care Level 2.
  • Previous experience within a healthcare environment and dealing with the general public.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiastic, well organized with a positive attitude towards flexibility and change.

Education/ Training:

  • Attend all mandatory training and keep skills up to date: CPR, Health & Safety at Work, Fire, Movement & Handling, Risk Assessment, and Infection Control.
  • To participate in as necessary any group or individual training sessions provided by the clinic.
  • To undergo training and competency testing and to maintain high standards.
  • To participate in your individual performance appraisal within the first three months of employment and annually thereafter according to the clinic policy.
  • To undertake other education & training relevant to the workplace or that which may be identified in the appraisal process.
  • Aim to achieve three monthly targets agreed upon with the line manager/ mentor.
  • Maintain and expand clinical knowledge and competence.
  • To understand and abide by the clinic’s Grievance and Disciplinary procedures.
  • To be proficient in the use of the clinic computer system.
  • To participate in departmental projects.

Health & Safety:

  • To know who is the Health & Safety representative for your area.
Be familiar with, and adhere to, the clinic policies relating to Health & Safety at Work, Fire, Movement & Handling, Risk Management, Infection Control, and COSHH.
  • To uphold the clinic’s legal requirement in relation to the above by attending mandatory updates.
  • To be competent in the use and storage of all equipment you agree to use in your department and promptly report any faults.
  • Maintain knowledge and competence and apply the principles of safe movement and handling to patients positioning and moving of equipment.
  • To maintain high standards of hygiene at all times and to adhere to the unit’s policies on infection control.
  • To undertake any other projects or duties commensurate with the grade of the post or at the request of the line manager.
  • To maintain the confidentiality of staff, patient, and visitor records and information received at all times, following the Data Protection Act (1998) and local policies and procedures.
